Balance often feels elusive, yet there are so many ways we can find it, so many places it can be found if we are prepared to look. I’ve come up with this list – what would you add?
Ahh…..Balance
The balance between your expectations (of yourself) and the reality
The balance between your expectations (of others) and the reality
The balance between your dreams (of how things would be) and the reality
The balance between fast and slow
The balance between doing and just being
The balance between time for yourself and time for others
The balance between caring for yourself and caring for others
The balance between healthy eating and over-indulging
The balance between exercise and relaxation
The balance between work and play The balance in relationships (with your partner, children, family, friends)
The balance between boredom and challenge
The balance between finding something easy and finding it difficult
The balance between sadness and happiness
The balance between calm and stress
The balance between contemplation and action
The balance between ‘too much’ and ‘not enough’
The balance between giving and receiving
The balance between material and spiritual
The balance between thoughts (rationality) and emotion (intuition)
The balance between acceptance and change (hint, gratitude)
The balance between short-term and long-term
The balance between fear and confidence
The balance between success and failure
The balance between listening and speaking
The balance between reading and writing
The balance between passivity and aggression (assertiveness really)
The balance between routine and spontaneity
The balance between new and old
The balance between solitude and company
The balance between effort and reward
The balance in ‘good’ thoughts and ‘bad’ thoughts The balance between loss and gain
The balance between yin and yang energy
The balance in every moment (it all comes back to perspective)
The balance in nature (look for it, its everywhere)
The balance in yoga, in standing on one foot, in standing on both feet!
Balance in love between two people
Balance in our communities
Balance between countries and economies in our imbalanced world
Balance between our use of natural resources and preserving our environment
Balance in seeking balance (it’s not perfection people)
Wobbling through life and living it well (on balance)
As (ably/ridiculously) demonstrated by yours truly.
I’ve come up with 44 ways and places to find balance – come on, let’s round up this list to 50! Please share your suggestions. What are the places you just can’t seem to find balance, no matter how hard you look?

The balance between your expectations is quite timely as Josefa has been talking about this week as part of her Conversations over Coffee link up. That is the balance I have been thinking about most lately, plus the balance of giving and receiving particularly with a friend of mine, has been at the forefront of mind. I will let you know if I can think of any to add 🙂
Thanks Renee – that giving and receiving thing is hard with friends. Frankly I feel a bit let down lately by friends. And I agree that our expectations are probably the hardest of all things to balance.
You may have it covered in your list but for me currently the greatest balance challenge I’m facing is balancing my ambition with my ability.
One has me biting off more than I can chew – while the other can lead to self doubt
What a fantastic list – and so very relevant to me right now !
Thank you for sharing – have the best weekend.
Me
The balance between our expectations of our children and their age. I know for myself I sometimes forget that Mr 4 is only 4 and so I should lower some of expectations of him.
That’s a good one Tegan and I’m guilty of that too – sometimes I think I compare Little Yang with what I remember his sister was doing at that age, only my memory may not be reliable and I think I expect more from him to start with. They really are still so little.
After reading that I’ve realised I’m 44 different kinds of unbalanced! That adds up to one very unbalanced bogan. That has a ring to it though…
Sounds like lots of room to find balance Ness – I’ve got plenty of balance work to do too, so I wouldn’t worry. thanks for visiting.
What a lovely post! I love that enough+enough=more than enough….
It’s a pretty simple equation I reckon Lydia, but somehow it can be hard to solve.
Oh Kathy I adored that video, and your hubby’s commentary is GOLD. Great balance there and laughter. Love the kids balance in the pool. I’m no good at any balance, I can stand on one left for awhile though, does that count? xxx
It was a bit of a muck-around and laugh that video – the kids are great aren’t they – you should see Katelin in full dance/acrobatics/balance mode.
